I'm a little confused. How would one use a three phase motor for "More Power" if they don't have three phase power at their location. I don't know of many homes that have three phase service, and I know my shop does not have three phase power available.

I would be interested in the MORE POWER option if there was a way to use it on the 120 - 240 single phase service I have at my shop.

Pictures of the centrifuges look AWESOME BTW

Ahh! Excellent question and the detail that I didn't understand also. The answer is that if you have 120V Single phase you need an inverter/controller that converts 120V Single phase to 240V Three Phase with speed control. In a nut shell that is it. You get speed control as well as the use of a much superior motor design in a three phase motor. As I said earlier, the motor cost is slightly higher and the controller is about $300.

Hmmm this is something to think about then. I have 120V/240V at my shop, course anyone could have 240 at their house too cause it's not hard to wire. The inverter to three phase would make this something to definitely think about, especially given the faster spin speeds.

Given that I am splitting this centrifuge purchase with a buddy of mine (we'll be processing all the oil at my shop anyway) each of us kicking in an extra ~$150 to have double the G forces would be nice.

If I am correct in my thinking, double the G forces means a more through cleaning of the vegetable oil a bit faster or possibly with less heating at the regular speed.

something to chew on hmmmmm.

Two questions: I too am working on a design with a twist that I am sure has already been tried. What are your thoughts on using PVC componets that have been surfaced for balance as the centrifuge pot?

You have mentioned a kit several times but I have not found any pricing or avail. info?

Sorry, the site has gotten a bit confused. We are working on a revision.

Its in the Products section => www.wvodesigns.com/index.php/Centrifuges/View-all-products.html

I would be concerned that PVC is going to be a little soft to support significant force without deforming (a lot). I have seen a number of interesting designs out there that people have rigged up to be even less expensive than my design. If you have a design in the works, start a new thread and we can all chip in our 2cents to help out.
