The assembly on the right is the fuel manifold. It contains the check valves for the diesel and the veggie lines that are coming into it, and then the 2 lines that feed out of it go to the fuel rails. Also has 2 additional ports so I can install a pressure sender and a temp sender.

So you are saying that this piece IS the switching point. This device, and the fuel lines to the heads, and the heads will all contain either VO or USD (depending on the time of day)? And you are saying that when you switch back to diesel you will have to wait for the engine to consume VO from this device all the way down to the the head, and including the heads and let the VO be replaced by diesel?

If there is a check valve on your diesel input to this device and there is a check valve on the VO input to this device then why would you need the solenoid valve? There is nothing to purge.

Part of the ingenuity of the Vegistroke, ergo Raw Power, system is the front door - back door approach of purging the heads of VO. By first sloping the flow of VO into the "backdoor" of the heads hopefully you have signaled the diesel to start flowing. then by purging the system you have allowed a quick escape rout for the VO to be evacuated quickly out the back door. Not to mention filling the lines downstream of your heat exchanger with diesel instead of cold VO.

What am i not understanding here?

I found this design posted in the discussion boards and I believe was part of the early evolution of the veggiestroke system. I had even purchased the manifold and two of the big check valves before I made the change to the smaller head mounted ones as per the current veggiestroke. The purge system is the same from the head out and has the advantage of more robust checkvalves however, as Rotozuk pointed out; purge time and volume would be increased somewhat.

I did the whole manifold design with out a purge out the back of the manifolds. geting to the back of the engine was not an option for my time schedule!!!! however I am happy with the switch over time. I have switched as little as 3/4 of amile and not had problem restarting the next day.

You are missing the fact that the back of my heads (firewall) are "T" together, and off that "T" is my purge line. So all diesel and veggie comes in from the front, and can be purged from the rear. Added advantage of the rear heads being tied together is it helps our poor starving injector when running on diesel.

Purge time is about 7 seconds. Plus one minute to clear the fuel in the injectors. I usually give a 10 second purge as I like to have a little diesel in my veggie tank, and about 2 or more minutes run time just to be safe.

If I should have an issue with my check valves (as some have had with the little ones) I have very easy access to them.
