TOPIC: Timer Cards for Purge and AutoShutdown
#371
Re:Timer Cards for Purge and AutoShutdown 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Interesting. I believe that I'll have to check these out. Initially it looks like I'll be setting up my system for manual purge and activation.

Well activation can be automatic since it is temp controlled, but I'll have to manually switch the system off then switch on the purge to open the solenoid for XX seconds, close solenoid, then idle my truck for a minute or so till shutdown. I have a trip to TN to take in December and a manually controlled system will be the fastest thing for me to get setup.

And funds are tight right now though I'll quite possibly order some of these cards if they will do the job.

It looks like they have the appropriate functions to work and offer a significant cost savings.

However, understand that they are not automobile OEM quality and the line "Connect to 12-24V Filtered and Regulated Voltage" worries me somewhat. I was warned by an Electrical Engineer co-worker that automotive power is very "dirty" and some consumer timers MAY not work constantly.

I don't want to come across as negative there and will add these timers to the parts list on the next revision of the conversion. The timers that I have spec'd cost over $100 but there is some piece of mind that comes with that and I hate messing with electrical gremlins.

YergInNY: did you ever get around to using or testing these cards? I have seen a whole bunch of them on ebay of late and was thinking about snagging some. I have seen auctions for lots of 5-6 of them go pretty cheap and I figure it might be worth playing around with. Better than the $100+ for the ABB cards.

Nope, never touched them again. I know i am going to get burned by this, but i just go totally manual. I really feel that someone could make a microprocessor controlled controller for WVO with generic functions and could make some money. I would pay. I am a little upset with my electricals. My idiot lights dont mean anything any more, i dont know what is running, what is not, when my diesel is running, when my grease is running. All my cute little lights mean is that the main 40A fuse is good. If properly running i would have a light for Grease one for 12V heater, and one yellow that burns when the diesels is running when it shouldn't be. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men!

Sounds like you need to get back under the dash!
There should be no reason why you wouldn't have a light working for the veggie motor, the diesel motor and the purge valve. Let us know if you need some help!

Also, I have been contemplating putting together a microprocessor or a "black box" that would do the magic for a conversion. I am currently working out what is need for the other vehicle conversions types so that I can get it all in...
